Watching a movie at home in your comfort is a very personal experience. But if you have a partner, you know the joy of sharing a lovely film with the one you love. And there are some movies to watch with your boyfriend and have a good time.

Of course, though, as with everything in our internet-driven world, sometimes movie night gets delayed by the sheer amount of choices that you and your boo have when it comes to picking out which movie to watch. Do you go with a romance to reflect your feelings? A comedy because you need to laugh? A serious drama that you can dissect together afterwards? A scary movie so you have someone to be freaked out with? Or something completely fantastical to take you away from real life?

Well, with this list of 20 movies to watch with your significant other, we’ve got you covered on most fronts.

1. When in Rome

when in rome

If you believe in destiny and your boyfriend doesn’t, then watch this movie together. While this may probably still makes him think destiny is cheesy and not for guys like him, at least you showed him what could happen if you believe in it.

If that still won’t cut it, at least you get to watch Josh Duhamel being his hunky self. You’ll hope your boyfriend gets the drift to be romantic, even if he doesn’t believe in love spells.

2. 50 First Dates.

50 first dates

So your boyfriend keeps telling you you’re so forgetful? Then hit the couch together, grab some popcorn, and watch this Adam Sandler flick. Enjoy the laughs you share, especially with the ever-present Rob Schneider in the cast. One of the finest movies to watch with your boyfriend.

This flick is about a playboy who falls in love with a girl with no short-term memory due to an accident. Now, it’s up to the guy to make the girl fall in love with him every day—just like what you want your boyfriend to do with you.

3. Along Came Polly.

Along Came Polly

A perfect mix of quirky, funny, and unpredictability from an unlikely pair: hot Jennifer Aniston and the comic Ben Stiller. This romantic comedy helps ease you into the many discomforts you go through early in the relationship. This movie shows how two very opposite people can still be attracted to each other and make things work.

4. Slumdog Millionaire.

This movie is an undying testament to how game shows like Who Wants to be a Millionaire can change your life. Well, no. Seriously, this movie is one of those intelligently done films that break the mould with their casting choices.

This story shows a boy in the slums and his journey to being part of the infamous game show, surprisingly winning it, and winning his beloved’s heart. Overall, a great movie if you and your boyfriend want to also have intelligent conversations on socioeconomic issues and Hollywood.

5. Love and Basketball.

Love and Basketball

If your guy is a basketball fan, then he’d probably not whine if you make him watch this. Or at least, he’ll try to be interested. The underlying sports theme is actually pretty decent when it comes to enticing males, plus the movie is sweet and mushy enough for the ladies, making this flick a win-win.

6. The Tourist.

The Tourist

If he’s not into cheesy, predictable rom-coms, he’ll like the guesswork in The Tourist. This cat-and-mouse tale puts a mystery woman played by Angelina Jolie in the middle, as she appears to be leading on not only Johnny Depp’s character, but the authorities on the chase. Plus, the locations, Venice and Paris, are just so amazing and romantic. One of the must-watch movies to watch with your boyfriend.

7. Confessions of a Shopaholic.

If you want your guy to understand how you blew your credit card over a pair of boots, make him watch this movie. Based on the Shopaholic series by Sophie Kinsella, this movie follows a shopping addict who tries to stay afloat and achieve her dreams of becoming a writer for a famous fashion magazine. But all the while a ruthless debt collector is hot on her heels.

Unlike other damsel-in-distress types, the protagonist gets herself out of trouble and in the end bags her prince charming.

8. How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.

How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days

With the charming and ageless Kate Hudson paired up with hunky fellow A-lister Matthew McConaughey, the result is a movie worth watching many times. Hudson just glows and McConaughey is every man’s man, making this flick really work. Despite all the mind games, trickery, and battle of wills from both endearing characters, they prove love can also happen in just 10 days!

9. Pretty Woman.

pretty woman

Playboy billionaire who won’t commit meets southern belle-turned street hooker. An unlikely pair, alright, but it works! And if your guy wouldn’t take you on a shopping spree the way Gere’s character did for Roberts’ then your guy should better think again.

My Best Friend’s Wedding

Another of the best performances of Julia Roberts, this movie actualizes the belief that there really is no such thing as friendship between men and women because, eventually, one falls for the other. And one did in this movie—and it was almost too late.

Amidst all the kerfuffle for what would have been a beautiful wedding and a lovely couple, Roberts’ character comes into the picture, intent on sabotaging the wedding. All her scheming proved futile though. A testament that true love also develops even after just a short while.

11. Flipped

 Flipped

Ah, the beauty of young love. Revisit that again in this movie, directed by Rob Reiner, the same director behind The Bucket List and When Harry Met Sally. This endearing movie is about the playful, giggly, innocent love between two 14-year olds, Bryce and Juli. When they met each other in second grade, Juli instantly knew it was love, but Bryce wasn’t sure. Over the years, it’s a chaos of hormones and teen melodrama, but in the end love wins.

12. Hitch.

hitch

A little run-of-the-mill rom-com, this movie stars Will Smith in the lead role. He helps guys get their moves on and snag the girls of their dreams. However, Smith himself is a far-cry from smooth and suave as he tries to woo Eva Mendes. If you want to teach your guy some pointers on how to win your heart, then this is a movie to watch.

13. Moulin Rouge.

Moulin Rouge

This movie is about truth, beauty, freedom, and love—above all else, love. It starts spectacularly with all the works—the music, the women, the costumes, and all the sparkles. However, underneath all these is a dark undertone, the inescapable grasp of death, which is the only powerful force pulling apart any strong love.

14. Serendipity.

Serendipity

If your guy doesn’t believe in fate, then maybe this movie will make him think. Helmed by lovely Kate Beckinsale and John Cusack, this movie is a spectacle. It tells the story of two people brought together by amazing coincidences, making you believe there really is such a thing as soulmates.

15. Love, Actually.

Love, Actually

This is a Christmas-time classic. If after watching this, you and your guy don’t have a tradition of watching this every yuletide season, then you may just not be meant to be. This movie is a star-studded showcase of how love manifests itself in many ways, through the lives of eight couples. It’s a blend of witty, sappy, touching, funny, sad, and infectious. It’s impossible to watch this without falling in love once again.

16. Titanic.

titanic

Of course, a classic. Directed by James Cameron, this movie doesn’t even have to try to be part of the list. It’s just a beautiful, heart-warming-and-then-heart-crushing tale of two strangers of different social classes who meet in a grand ship, only to be pulled apart by tragedy.

Excellently crafted, with plenty of unforgettable scenes, such as when Leonardo DiCaprio’s character, Jack, draws Rose, played by Kate Winslet. Surely, your boyfriend would love to watch the movie a few more times just for this scene. One of the best movies to watch with your boyfriend.

17. Alfie.

This is an unlikely movie to be on the list, but if you’re going to watch a movie with your guy, this is one you shouldn’t miss. Starring Jude Law in his heyday as a hot celebrity, this movie about Alfie, a modern-day Cassanova who learns his lessons the hard way. It is as good as telling your boyfriend to not even think about womanizing!

18. Moonstruck

When there’s a full moon over Brooklyn, anything can happen, and everything happens in the neighbourhood where widowed bookkeeper Loretta Castorini (Cher) lives. First, Loretta agrees to marry a man she does not love, Johnny Cammareri (Danny Aiello), simply because he knows how to propose properly. Before the wedding can take place, Cammareri must visit his dying mother in Sicily. In his absence, Loretta is supposed to try to patch up the differences between Johnny and his brother, bakery operator Ronny Cammareri (Nicolas Cage).

19. I love you Man

I love you Man

Because you love them, man. Peter Klaven (played by Paul Rudd) is recently engaged to the love of his life, which makes him realise that he has no guy friends to stand up with him at the altar. With the help of his fiancée Zooey Rice (played by Rashida Jones), he sets out to find a best man through a series of man-dates. Peter tells Zooey that out of all his girlfriends, she’s the only one who’s ever wanted him to have his own life, which is kind of like the perfect thing to say on a movie date based on compromise.

20. The prestige

Your last shot at compromise, The Prestige cheekily pits two superheroes — Batman and Wolverine — against each other as Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman play rival magicians in the 19th century. You and your partner will undoubtedly enjoy the shocking plot twists and mind-blowing illusions in this period film.

Now that you’ve got a list of movies to binge on Netflix, all that’s left to do is invite bae over and put out the snacks. Enjoy!
