The first thing most of us do in the morning is read the newspaper. It is kind of important to stay updated and know all the events happening around us. Nowadays, the sports section is filled with the news of Asian Games being held in Jakarta Palembang. After taking a look at the medal table I felt so proud as an Indian. Our players are doing exceptionally well and bringing laurels to the country. Yes, there are many countries ahead of us but we have seen a lot of improvement in the sports.
India has been a member since the very beginning and hosted Asian Games on two occasions.
The games are not over yet, so far India has won 8 gold, 15 silver, and 20 bronze medals.

1. Neeraj Chopra – Javelin throw
He clinched the gold after throwing at a distance of 88.36 meters. He surpassed his own national record of 87.43 meters which he made in Doha. Chopra has been in a good form this year and has won multiple medals including Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.

2. Rani Sarnobat – Shooting
She won the gold after getting a tough competition from her counterpart from Thailand, Naphaswan Yangpaiboon. She won the second gold medal in shooting for India. She won the title after two rounds of shoot-off.
She has previously won a bronze medal in 2014 Asian games and gold in commonwealth games held in Incheon.

3. Rohan Bopanna and Divij Sharan – Tennis
They won Gold for tennis in men’s double. They finished off their set with 6-3, 6-4 and the match lasted for 52 minutes only. This was a good comeback for Rohan Bopanna as he recovered from his injury and played after a long break.

4. Vinesh Phogat – Wrestling
She became the first women to win gold in the Asian games. She won after defeating Yuki Irie of Japan in the 50kg category. She followed the footsteps of her elder sisters and made all of us proud. She will now be preparing for Tokyo Olympics 2020.

5. Bajrang Punia – Wrestling
He clinched a gold medal in the 65kg category against Japan’s Takatani Daichi with 11-8. In the last Asian games, he won a silver medal and has won many gold medals in various international games.

6. Tajinderpal Singh Toor – Shot put
Tajinder Singh Toor won the gold by throwing the iron ball at the distance of 20.75 meters. He broke the last record of 20.57 meters made by Abdul Majeed Alhabashi.

7. Indian rowing team – Quadruple sculls
Indian rowing team clinched a gold in men’s quadruple sculls. The team crossed the finish line with the time of 6:17:13.
