2020 is not far along and your patience is going to finally pay off. The movies that 2020 is offering us have us hyperventilating. The wait is finally over and the movies that you have been waiting to land into theatres are here in a few months. Here are a few Hollywood and Bollywood movies that are anticipated to release in the year 2020.
Underwater – Jan. 10
Kristen Stewart is set to star in the movie of Underwater. This science-fiction film is about a research crew that works underwater. They find themselves trapped in a devastating earthquake as they try to survive. The earthquake destroys their underwater laboratory as they struggle the fight the natural disaster. The movie is dark and explains how strangers act in times of traumatic situations with a death bed so clearly visible.
Underwater’s cast also includes Vincent Cassel, Jessica Henwick, John Gallagher, Jr., Mamoudou Athie, and Gunner Wright. It is directed by William Eubank.
Bad Boys For Life – Jan. 17
After the long wait of seventeen years, the sequel to Bad Boys II is finally here. It has been confirmed by the lead cast, Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, on Instagram that Bad Boys for Life will be in the theatres by January 17, 2020. They will play the role of the Miami Police Department detectives.
The fans were quite disappointed when the movie was pulled was due to some conflicts. Although, it appears to be back on track and ready to stun its audience. The movie costars DJ Khaled, Vanessa Hudgens, and Jacob Scipio.
The Gentlemen – Jan. 24
Ritchie is back on the seat of action films and is out with The Gentlemen on January 24, 2020. The movie is about a guy named Mickey Pearson who built a marijuana empire in London and became one of the richest persons of America. When the word got out that he’s looking to cash out his business, it triggered an array of schemes and plots amongst those who wanted to buy it.
The film stars Matthew McConaughey, Charlie Hunnam, Michelle Dockery, Henry Golding, Colin Farrell, and Hugh Grant.
The Rhythm Section – Jan. 31
The Rhythm Section is something between a spy thriller and a revenge thriller. It has a strong female lead, Blake Lively who is seeking revenge. After the untimely death of her parents, she sets off on a path of self-destruction. When she finds out that the plane crash responsible for her parents’ death was orchestrated, she takes it upon herself to seek revenge from the responsible and thus begins the bloody quest of revenge. The cast includes Jude Law, Sterling K. Brown, and Richard Brake.
Gretel & Hansel — Jan. 31
No one is strange to the 19th-century fairy tale of Hansel and Gretel. There have been many film adaptations of the same but none did justice to the actual story. However, come January 2020, we will get quite a straightforward version of this story onscreen. The beautiful Gretel is played by Sophia Lillis while Sam Leaky makes his debut as her younger brother, Hansel. The role of witch Holda is taken by Genre veteran Alice Krige. The story is much true to its source of which no one is unknown.
Birds of Prey – Feb. 7
DC and Warner Bros. seem to keep up to their strengths in the following year. Margot Robbie is back to feature as the lead role in Birds of Prey. The film is based on the DC comics of the same name. Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Jurnee Smollett-Bell join Robbie’s Harley as Huntress and Black Canary, respectively. The trio will team up with Detective Renee Montoya played by Rosie Perez, to protect young Cassandra Cain from the villainous Black Mask. The most awaited DC Movies to release in 2020.
The King’s Man – Feb. 14
The King’s Man is an action spy movie that works as a prequel to the Kingsman film series. It is loosely based on the comic series of Kingsman. The film is about a man who must race against time to stop the destruction. The man must go into the history’s time of worst tyrants and criminal masterminds to stop them. The film is set in the early 1900s introducing the audience to its earliest foes. It stars Ralph Fiennes, Harris Dickinson, Gemma Arterton, Tom Hollander, and many others.
Bloodshot – Feb. 21
Bloodshot is an upcoming science-fiction film based on the Valient Comics character starring Vin Diesel. After he and his wife are murdered, they are brought back to life by a group of scientists. The nanotechnology that is infused in his system, makes him a superhuman. He turns into a killing machine. Ray cannot recall anything from his past life but as the movie goes forward, it all floods back to him as he remembers the man that killed him as his wife. He seeks for revenge only to discover that there is more to the story. The movie co-stars Eiza Gonzalez, Michael Sheen, Toby Kebbell, and Sam Heughan.
Godzilla vs. Kong – March 13
The age-old quandary of who is stronger will be answered in the upcoming film of Godzilla vs. Kong as the two will face off onscreen. The director has already assured that there will be a definite winner of the two. Adam Winard (director) sees this movie as one of his biggest projects. If the monstrous face-off wasn’t enough, the film also features an impressive assembly of human actors. Stranger Things’ Millie Bobbie Brown will reprise her King of the Monsters role, with Black Panther’s Danai Gurira and Deadpool 2’s Julian Dennison also attached to star.
No Time To Die – April 8
We will see our own James Bond back in action on the big screen trying to rescue the captured scientist. The next level villain is shown who is in possession of a new technology which makes him hard to defeat. The trailer seems very promising as usual and the movie will hit the theatres in early April. Black Widow – April 30
The much-awaited movie by Marvel is going to be released in 2020 and we can’t wait. Our very famous agent Natasha Romanoff will be seen in action and we will get to know more about her past life. This is undoubtedly one of the most awaited moviesof 2020 with Natasha’s reunion with her sister. It will be action packed and we are sure to be glued to our seats. It will be great to see Scarlett Johansson back in action.
Fast & Furious 9 – May 22
The wait is finally worth it to see Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham in Fast & Furious 9 this summer. You can count on your favourite cast members. There are several opportunities for mayhem with Charlize Theron’s Cipher still alive. It is scheduled for theatre on May 22nd and sure to thrill its audiences. The film is finally here and the audience is waiting to see the square off against cheetah. Filling in part of the timeline between the first movie’s World War I setting and the hero’s reemergence in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Wonder Woman 1984 will see the return of Gadot, Chris Pine, Robin Wright, and director Patty Jenkins. SNL alum Kristen Wiig joins the fray as nemesis Cheetah, clashing with Diana in the Soviet Union.
The Conjuring 3 — Sept. 11
Conjuring 3 is set for theatre just before the Halloween of 2020 on 11th September. Warren’s story continues in this sequel. It could be one of the top horror movies of 2020. We can count on the “based on a true story” tagline as the past conjuring movies were based on actual Warren cases. This film is signed to portray the “devil made me do it” case in which Arne Cheyenne Johnson was accused of his landlord’s murder and put to trial when he claimed that he was possessed at the time of the killing. Paramount will release the third film in the franchise after seven years. The Croods 2 – Dec. 23
The Croods 2 has had a long journey to the big screen. The first film gained quite the box office success and a sequel was put to request shortly after but it did not seem to work out well with the release date. The movie was put back on the studio’s schedule in 2017.
Although struggles behind the scenes are rarely a good sign, the original film was an impressive success, earning a nomination for the best animated film at the Oscars. The movie is dubbed by includes Nicolas Cage, Emma Stone, and Ryan Reynolds. The film is all set with new cast member Leslie Mann.

Movie buffs of a certain age might remember this name to come on the TV screen. Fantasy Island was one of the topmost visited vacation spots where everyone’s wildest fantasies came to life. Deepika Padukone stars as Malti, the survivor of an acid attack, based on the story of acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal. Meghna Gulzar takes the director’s seat, which marks Deepika Padukone’s maiden project as a producer.

Ashwini Iyer Tiwari, who gave us the critically-acclaimed Neil Battey Sannata, will be back with a sports drama featuring Kangana Ranaut. Panga centres around the life of a kabaddi player. The Fox Star Studios production also features Jassi Gill, Richa Chadha, Pankaj Tripathi, and Neena Gupta.
Rooh-Afza – March 20
Starring Rajkummar Rao and Jahnvi Kapoor in a fresh pairing, Rooh-Afzais Maddock Films and Rao’s third collaboration after Stree and Made in China. At the helm of this horror-comedy is Hardik Mehta (Hansal Mehta’s son). The film also features Varun Sharma in a significant role.
Sadak 2- March 25
After 20 years, Mahesh Bhatt returns behind the camera in a film, that will mark his first collaboration with Alia Bhatt. The sequel to the 1991 original Sadak starring Sanjay Dutt and Pooja Bhatt, will also see Pooja and Alia share screen space for the first time. The film also features Aditya Roy Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt. Sadak 2 is due for release on March 25, 2020.
Gulabo Sitabo – April 24, 2020
Starring Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana, Gulabo Sitabo is a quirky family comedy-drama. Set in Lucknow, the film will see director-writer Shoojit Sircar-Juhi Chaturvedi collaborate once again after Vicky Donor, Piku and October.
Love Aaj Kal 2
The sequel to Imtiaz Ali’s 2009 romcom Love Aaj Kal will star Kartik Aaryan opposite Sara Ali Khan. There isn’t much out there about the film yet. Randeep Hooda too has a brief role to play in the film. Watch this space for more details.

Ayan Mukerji’s fantasy trilogy has whipped up much buzz over the last year. Starring Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Amitabh Bachchan, the film has been delayed for several reasons. But we’ll hopefully see the light of the day in the early part of next year.
Inshallah
After 19 years, Salman Khan and Sanjay Leela Bhansali will be back together for their co-production, Inshallah. The romance drama features Alia Bhatt opposite Salman Khan, in a fresh onscreen pairing. She’s half his age but I’m excited to see what Bhansali has up his sleeve this time.
