The Korean drama or the K-drama craze is known for its intense and interesting storylines. Once you start watching these Korean shows on Netflix, you’ll find it hard to stop. Here is a list of some amazing Korean drama series that you’ll not be able to stop watching.
1. Strong girl bong soon
This series is about a girl that has gained supernatural strength and uses it to fight against evil and procure justice. For generations, a superpower has been passed down in the maternal line of Bong’s family. While fighting the bad, she gets trapped in a love triangle with her CEO boss and her cop crush.
2. Black
Black is a 2017 fantasy-thriller South Korean television series. While chasing his runaway partner, a grim reaper uncovers truth about a set of unsolved murders and also falls in love with a mortal woman, leading him to break supernatural rules of dis-involvement with human affairs. To stop seeing the terrible things, Ha-Ram has relied on her sunglasses. So, if you are in the mood of a fantasy-thriller then you should definitely opt for this Korean series.
3. Stranger
Stranger is a South Korean television series. An emotionless prosecutor (Cho Seung-woo) ends up teaming with a passionate and warm-hearted female detective (Bae Doona) to uncover rampant corruption and the truth behind a serial murder case. With the help of a gutsy detective, a prosecutor took over a convict’s strong plea. so, if you want to watch how opposite people work together invest in this one.
4. The Empress Ki
In an alternate universe, South Korea is still under the rule of a constitutional monarchy, and the royal family has its fair share of dangerous secrets that could be exposed by its new empress, a bright musical theatre actress with a one-sided crush on her husband. A woman born in Korea, who was raised as a boy, fights her way to become a powerful empress.
5. Romance is a bonus book
It is about a successful author, Cha Eun Ho who is a senior editor at a book publishing company. He meets a girl who lies about her background to get a job with him. As they go through a series of personal and professional problems, they realise their true feeling for each other. Another Korean series which is a mixture of chaos and cuteness in the form of a love story.
6. My ID is Gangnam Beauty
Bullied for her looks, Mi-rae gets plastic surgery hoping for a better kind of a life but there is no end to her problems. She faces new problems in college as her peers ridicule her artificial look. It is based on a Korean webtoon. The drama follows Mi-rae’s story of recovering her self esteem as she meets her course mate.
7. Svaha: The Sixth Finger
This thriller is an interwoven web of subplots and mysteries. Paster Park is hired to expose a religious cult. Meanwhile, the police captain investigates a murder case linked to that same cult. The mysterious cult is obsessing over a girl. This drama is full of evil conspiracies, mystical whodunit and evil spirits. It will keep its audience on the edge of their seats at all times. Though a thriller, the movie has other things to offer as well.
8. Chief of Staff
Starring veteran actors Lee Jung-jae and Shin Min-ah, Chief of Staff centres on the behind-the-scenes politicking of South Korea’s National Assembly. The drama feels reminiscent of renowned American series The West Wing, but in ways that highlight deficiencies rather than strengths. It is a story of politicians and their aides who try to climb up the political ladder and the deeds they do in order to be on the top.
9. My First First Love
This is a story of five young people and their not so perfect encounters with the concept of first love. These five people leave their homes for different reasons and start living together.
Now they must all learn to live together and learn to love. There will be various messy encounters of love and friendship between the five of them.
10. Designated survivor: 60 days
This series is based on a politician – Park-mu-jin, who ascends from the position of Minister of Environment to the President. In an explosion, all the other members of the parliament died except him. In the next 60 days as a President, Park investigates the case of the explosion and who was behind it. On his journey, he grows as a national leader. You just watch this, and be happy that you did. Another political drama but with a twist.
11. Love Alarm
This series is based on an app that alerts you if someone around you is interested in you. A group of friends are trapped between their desires and what the app tells them what they want. Ignorance is truly bliss. Love alarm is based on a Korean webtoon of the same name. In this drama a family trauma bearing girl finds love on this app while two other guys fall in love with her.
12. Life
Life is a South Korean television series. It is a medical drama that depicts the power struggles and human stories that take place within a university hospital. Ideals and interests collide between a doctor who is patient oriented and the hospital’s CEO who has been newly appointed. Let us see if they can sort their differences or their differences sort them. While you may think this one to be a regular drama series based in a medical circle, this isn’t.
13. Oh My Ghost
Oh My Ghost revolves around a very timid person named Na Bong-sun. Her personality did not fetch her many friends and is often found in the company of herself. She can see ghosts and on an uneventful night, a lustful ghost enters her soul. This lustful ghost died a virgin and that was what kept her soul at unrest. Bong came out to be a bold seductive woman after this ghost entered her body. Let us find out if this ghost will ever lose her virginity from her host.
Boys Over Flowers is about a simple girl from a working-class family who attends a prestigious academy. She is alienated by the rich brats of that school. She catches the attention of the school’s wealthiest group of students, commonly known as the F4, after its leader notices that she is the only girl in the entire school who does not fight for his attention. Her confidence is constantly tested by his bullying, which changes into a budding relationship over time. Another feel-good Korean Drama series.
15. Cain and Abel
As its name suggests, this story is inspired by the biblical stories of Cain and Abel. Cho-in is a successful doctor, while Seon-woo Harbor’s jealousy and ill will against his brother, as he believes that Cho-in took everything he has ever valued in his life, the love and attention of their father, the love of his life, and being a better doctor. It is a full-on dramatic series.
16. Kingdom
In this drama you have the Zombie Contagion which has a great origin story. The Zombies are unique in that they are nocturnal, so during the day they hide in nooks and crannies of the landscapes and structures which add to the creepiness in the film. Second is that there is also the intrigue surrounding the Royal Succession which is at the heart of why the Zombies ended up being created in the first place.
17. Mr. Sunshine
Everything in this drama is best it has good cinematography, well direction, great character development, acting on point; it’s completely different from all the other josan era shows. The love line seems absurd with not a triangle but a quadrilateral and if you add the glory hotel owner in the midst it becomes a chase run Love line.
18. Hello My Twenties
5 college students, from different walks of life end up living together in a fictional house share called Belle Époque. Each character has layers and a unique personality and that they develop through the course of time, rather than unrealistically remaining stagnant. This show is hilarious, touching and cute all at the same time.
19. Something in the Rain
The series explores the relationship of two people as they go from being “just acquaintances” to “a genuine couple”. From breakup to work stress life isn’t all that appealing until she meets the love of her life. Another classic Korean Drama Series to binge-watch
20. Abyss
Abyss is a South Korean romantic comedy fantasy television series. Prosecution layer Go Se-yeon (Park Bo-young, Kim Sa-rang) and cosmetics company successor Cha Min (Ahn Hyo-seop, Ahn Se-ha) are given another chance at life after dying in an accident thanks to soul-reviving marbles in a magical abyss – revived with new looks they begin working at the same law firm while looking for the reason of their revival.
21. Man to Man
Man to Man is a South Korean action comedy television series. A long-time celebrity Yeo Woon-gwang suddenly has a need for a bodyguard and hires Kim Seol-woo (Park Hae-jin), a man trained in special investigations and a mysterious man of many talents. The bodyguard is disguised as a special agent who must complete the secret tasks of the nation.
22. Part time idol
Part-Time Idol launched in 2017 on Netflix, is a South Korean television series. After taking a break from stardom, a music producer gathers some trainees to launch a coed idol group. Though it is a youth-centric series it focuses on all the problems faced by it and fun too.
23. One More Time
Yoo Tan is the leader and vocalist of an indie band called One More Time, which he started with his childhood friends. As the band’s popularity and revenue begins to become unstable, Tan decides to sign a contract with a music label. While adjusting to his new life, Tan gets swept up in a mysterious event – An unwanted time leap allows him to journey back in time to regain his girlfriend. Not only the movie is based on a different concept it is quite refreshing.
24. Prison Playbook
The series marks Park Hae-soo’s first-ever lead role. A captivating drama revolving around the lives of convicts behind bars, their families and duty officers working in the correctional facilities. A superstar baseball pitcher, Kim Je-hyuk, is convicted of assault after he saves his sister from a sexual attack. There is so much to expect from this Korean drama.
25. 12 Years Promise
Jang Guk is a socially awkward person from the countryside who has just been transferred into a school in Seoul. She falls for the perfect Yoo Jun-su, who is the most popular boy in school. As her crush on him grows, it leads to the two high school students spending the night together which leads to her pregnancy. There is so much chaos and drama between the two families. Watch 12 Years promise to see what happens next.
